Experiment Planning and Operations

A challenge of seagoing oceanography is the ability to adapt scientific operations to a dynamic and rapidly-changing ocean. As the field adopts the widespread use of autonomous instruments, multi-asset coordination becomes more important to achieve project goals. In support of the planning and deployment of a research cruise utilzing multiple freely-drifting instruments, I developed a website to track assets and forecast their positions using operational ocean velocity forecasts. This information was accesssible during bandwidth-limited shipboard operations and contributed to the efficient execution of two research campaigns.
