Langmuir Turbulence

Langmuir turbulence is a leading-order driver of mixing in the ocean surface boundary layer. We observe the onset and evolution of Langmuir Circulations using novel ovservational techniques. In comparing their structure to high-resolution numerical models, we identify strategies for improving the modeling of turbulent processes. Better parametrizations of Langmuir turbulence can serve to increase the accuracy of large ocean and climate models.
